THE JOB
Sage Restaurant was about to open a new restaurant called Yellowfin Seafood Restaurant. As we had been looking after the Sage Site for so long this job was naturally given to us to do. The Sage Website is not one we designed, however we have been maintaining it for quite sometime. The Yellowfin site was a chance for us to show
the guys just what we can do site wise. The bar was set fairly high by the Justine as I requested she give me a list of sites she liked and elements she would like to see within the site. THe end result was she was after a site that had all the tools, but looked quite basic.
WHAT WE DID
After getting a list of wants from Justine, we set about throwing a few designs together. The one that was actually chosen was actually the first design we had produced, however colours were altered. Once we received the material and images for the site we first of all took all the photos into photoshop and modified to suit the site. We felt the majority were quite dull so we added a bit of vibrancy to them. The overall design and layout of the site was quite basic and came together rather quickly. There was really only one element that was going to give us grief and that was the menu. The menu started out as a basic menu with scroll out sub menus. When this was complete we felt it was a bit dull. To enhance this we added the random fish and faded fishing line. These elements are not visually over powering within the site but do give it that little bit extra to take away the blandness we felt we had without them. The site does not use a Web Editor for 2 reasons. 1. We maintain the site anyway, and 2. With the flash menu we could not allow buttons to be added or removed through the Editor.
ONGOING
Since completing the site we continue to work on improving Search Rankings for Yellowfin through Search Engine Optimisation as well as managing their Pay Per Click Campaign. On top of this we regularly update their menus for them and make any minor changes requested.
One of our aims was to place the site highly for Searches under the keyword phrase "Seafood Restaurant Broadbeach" . We have not got to No.1 for this as yet, however the site is on the front page of the 3 main Search Engines, Google, Yahoo & MSN.
